To: Whom it May Concern

This concerns Dr. Richard Gabriel's accomplishments in
Computer Science and Engineering. Gabriel's computer science
accomplishments, represented by 26 published papers, include most
of the papers on the Qlisp system for running the Lisp
programming language on parallel processors and much of the
work on developing object oriented facilities for Common
Lisp standardization.

His computer engineering activity is two-fold. In the
first place, he founded and directs technically the most
important company producing Common Lisp compilers and
interpreters. This activity has made a major contribution to
making the Common Lisp programming language available on most
current computers including the IBM 370 and its successors.

Second, he has played a major role in developing the ANSI
Common Lisp standard.

The proposed $80K salary for him is not out of line
considering this background. He is currently being paid at that
rate for 25 percent time.
